In my last Blog, I mentioned that I would share some ideas that I have discovered that have worked for me as a career coach. Over the months working with the students, I noticed that many of them, girls especially, seem to be lacking a lot of self confidence. I think the boys lack confidence as well but boys…well…they are boys and do a lot of posturing and seem to be confident but…
So, in my experience, the best way to improve or change a situation, is to change the way you think about it. In other words, use Positive Affirmations. I started with one student, Alisha, who is the sweetest young lady but barely could look me in the eye even after over a year of working together. I explained the concept…if you want to change your life, you change your thinking. I also gave her the “rules”: start with small statements of 3 words. The statement has to be present tense and positive. The statement is repeated 3 times, emphasizing each word. She also had to look at herself in the mirror as she repeated the statement.
After we had a chuckle about the mirror idea, I explained how Positive Affirmations had changed my life and she said “I am going to do this.” And not only did she, but two weeks later, she was a different girl. Laughing, smiling, engaging in conversation, I almost didn’t recognize her.
And what did she say to herself? “I am successful”, “I am brave”, “I am smart”. And now she has expanded and lengthen her affirmations and the world is hers.
If you have a story to share and have used positive affirmations in your life, comment below and share.
Until next time…be positive!
