The short answer is no, I don’t get grown men (or women) beating each other up but I do like Muhammad Ali. I think he was an interesting person and inspirational at the end of his life. One of the quotes he said is very appropriate for career coaching and our students.
“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
Sometimes it seems like what career coaches have to deal with is impossible. Sometimes it is our students who think their situation is impossible. Sometimes it is their family life, their classes, their teachers. What has to be done, is to change the dialogue. Impossible is a dare…I love that. I love proving to people that my dreams were not impossible and I try to make my students understand that impossible lies between their ears.
This past graduating class proved that nothing is impossible. The 91% graduation rate, the amount of Dave Dollars distributed and so much more, proved that it is impossible to think that impossible is real. Success is possible and achievable.
