I love the fact that recently the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program worked on educating the students on the “we are connected” mindset. As was described, “The We Are Connected Mindset” teaches us that everyone who comes into our lives can contribute to the achievement of our dreams and goals.” I spent a great deal of time with one of my students on this very topic. She has realized (with a little help from her coach) that it is difficult to re-invent the wheel so to speak. After listening to her goals, I encouraged her to seek out a family friend that is in the field she wants. And she was brave enough to do that. This person told her exactly what she had to do to get to the next step in achievement of her goal. I was so proud of her. So now this person is part of her “dream team”: another concept in the SEL program. I like to think that she is starting to choose a dream team to help her navigate her future.
Another student is doing the same thing even though it is a little bit harder. She is trying to connect with people who she does not know and do not live in the area but should be able to guide her. I have encouraged her to communicate and be a bit of a squeaky wheel to get the needed information. She is persistent and I am proud of her as well. I know that both will build a dream team, will achieve their goals and be very successful.
