Why Does Time go so Fast?

students throwing graduation caps

I haven’t written a blog in quite a while. I haven’t figured out where the time went. My seniors will be graduating in a few weeks and the amount of time I have left to meet with them is getting shorter. So, what do I have to show for this experience? Turns out, quite a lot.

I don’t have children so learning how to communicate, advise and guide teens has been interesting to say the least. Initially I was very nervous that I would say something wrong or that I would not have anything to say or to offer. Luckily, that passed and over time I got closer to these kids. Well, not so much kids anymore.

I have watched these children become adults. Watched them make poor decisions and helped them understand the consequences of those decisions. I have watched them learn to communicate with me and other adults, watch them take short cuts and learn why shortcuts don’t usually work. I have helped them make better financial decisions and grow from putting their money in an envelope in a drawer to depositing money in a bank account and actually learn about interest. I have watched their original plans change multiple times, written multiple career plans for them, shared in their dreams, and got excited with them when those plans started to come together.

I have learned what I want to do differently with my next group of kids. The last 4 years have flown by and I can’t wait to work with another set of young adults and do an even better job of coaching.

In the meantime, if you would like to know more about career coaching or would like to share your experience or thoughts on the above topic, comment below to this blog and let me know your story.

Until next time… Happy graduation to students and coaches.
